Rough night for the 72s - Read from Kevin Mingus (z10) Facebook, who has flagged most of Kartington's races, from the August 3, Saturday Night's Buckeye Super Sprint Series. He wrote of a scary accident involving Joe Speakman just in front of him. Braden Speakman captured the event with his on board GoPro camera mounted in the 72s. Video 8-5
Sprint Car 72s recently added with familiar colors... Joe Speakman posing with the Kartington Raceway logo at Sandusky Speedway in the Buckeye Super Sprint Series. 7-26
Circleville / MSOKC -Braden Speakman raced Terry Kincaid's #17 clone kart last Sunday (June 2) finishing 3rd in his first Feature race. 6-10
Fremont Park Raceway- Wife and I experienced the friendly folks of karting. Went to nearby Fremont to run the kart Saturday. However, we missed the internet notices announcing the track would be closed for the Memorial Day weekend. Kit Henry was there working on the property and told us to go ahead and run the kart for as long as I want. Here I am, on the rare, other side of the camera. Last raced this track in 1965. Video(0:54 seconds). 5/29
MSOKC forum - Nice stories (thread one, thread two). Kart racers helping another kart racer having a bad day, and everyone discovering a great day of friendship. Also, saw a few threads congratulating Eric Fagan for his 2012 WKA Gold Cup Series Championship. Eric raced in Kartington is Back! (Hurricane Sandy) reopening event. Video 2012 page. Congratulations Eric! 5/29
Saw a neat video - I see this with the kart racers and folks at Kartington. Really nice when you see it happen. I'll just call it From Russia with Love 5-14
May 12th race in - Had a chance to talk with a racer after the races before the long trip home. The discussion started with brake system redundancy. For me, I saw my first redundant hydraulic back brake system, but found it odd that the kart did not have a tether for the mechanical linkage. Then another racer joined in, then another and another... when finishing the discussion, some of the guys are going to add a tether which is a simple and inexpensive upgrade. Then of course that led to the 'crash and burn' video (below) and some other wild accidents. Since we were looking at a 2007/2008 Energy Kinetic TaG kart, I suggested a YouTube video "Kart Crash Viata Noastra" taken mostly of TaG karts around the 2007/2008 season showing spectacular accidents--talk about leaps and bounds of kinetic energy. I was asked to publish the link (above).5-14
Kartington Raceway announces July 4th Celebration details - A special web page has been introduced for the event. 4-12
Kartington 'International' Raceway - Since Braden Speakman introduced the website we had our share of international visitors. This Saturday we had Janna, who is originally from Russia, visit Kartington. She found the live kart action very exciting and had a great time. We would like to thank all our international website visitors as well. 3-31
50/50 cash raffle held on opening race day - What was great about it, a friend of Kartington donated a Longacre Tire Pressure Gauge and t-shirt, giving participants a bonus of having three different chances to win with the same ticket. 3-31
New equipment made available for racetrack officials - Turn marshals, flagman and race director, along with their yellow caution flag, now have a bright red fire extinguisher at their stations to assure additional safety at Kartington Raceway due to this crash and burn video. A friend of Kartington Raceway sent us a link and we were surprised on what we saw. 3-31
New Kartington Raceway road signs posted - Here is what it looked like when I arrived for the early Saturday practice. The MrTailLight.com sponsor sign was added shortly thereafter and the picture taken on the way home. 3-31
Kartington Raceway Season 2013 starts today, March 29th, Friday, with a full day of open practice. We are excited! Weather forecast is great! And, it gets even better for Saturday--Race Day! And, better yet, we get to race into the night! 3-29 Schedule
Watch for it! We are expecting to have a new road sign up soon replacing the existing sign that guided our visitors to the track for many years. 3-28
Kartington Raceway's Braden Speakman lead a well attended Karting Rules and Support meeting. Topics discussed included: tires, flywheels, pipes, fuel, class weight and age groups, safety (driver safety equipment and kart). More details later. However, all left with safety enforcement will be strict. Kartington Raceway being a banked paved track appears not to play favors with the variety of equipment or set-ups observed in the 2012 races. So, to help keeping the racers' costs down, the racers can run their current equipment with encouragement when upgrading or replacing old parts to focus on safety. E.g., Billet aluminum flywheel is considered safer over stock steel. Each have their performance characteristics, however the track's banked turns and caution events give neither an advantage--it balances out. At this time, the rules have not been finalized yet. 2-18
Kartington is looking for a few good volunteers, actually the more the merrier, to help spruce up the track. Painting some of the buildings, fence projects, weed-wacking along fences and re-stacking tires. See: Schedule page.
Recognition awards were given by Braden Speakman to Taylor Grubaugh and Scott Elkes for their endless hours to promote Kartington Raceway.
In a recent internet search by Scott Elkes' wife, Janice, discovered DragTime with it featuring Scott's Toledo championship win. Also, DragTime has included link's to other, past and present, of Scott's videos. Do an internet search using Kartington Raceway and your name. It is interesting to discover what comes up. 2-18
Joe Speakman is in the Buckeye Super Sprints website. His 3rd in points for the 2012 racing season appears in all the web pages along with the other podium finishers. Joe is already very busy tweaking his sprint car for a better finish next season; and he will try to squeeze in several kart races at Kartington as well. Congratulations Joe! 2-18
